Utilities restore power after thunderstorms in NJ

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - Power has been restored to nearly all the hundreds of homes and businesses that lost service when severe thunderstorms rumbled across New Jersey.

Jersey Central Power & Light, a unit of FirstEnergy Corp., reports about 170 customers, mostly in Ocean County, were still without power early Monday afternoon. And just a handful of Atlantic City Electric customers, which is a unit of Pepco Holdings Inc., still had no service.

The thunderstorms, which hit the region late Sunday night, packed powerful winds, lightning and heavy downpours. They knocked down some trees and power lines, but did not cause any major damage.
